MOORESVILLE – The Mooresville Public Library is preparing to turn the page on more than 120 years of service at its North Main Street location as the opening of a new spot for residents on the rapidly growing west side of town approaches.

The West Branch Library, at the Williamson Road/Brawley School Road intersection, is closing in on a fall ribbon cutting, and according to Library Director Marian Lytle, it’s nothing short of beautiful.

“It’s gorgeous,” she says.

That’s a description she sprinkles liberally in conversation about what’s to come when the doors open on the approximately 10,000-square-foot space of what was a Rite Aid drug store gobbled up in a failed $5 billion merger with Walgreens.

The leased facility will focus on service to residents in the 28117 ZIP code — a population adding a few hundred card holders a month to the town’s library circulation demands.

The West Branch is set to open later this fall. It’s a timeline that has been affected by a variety of delays thanks to the country’s continued battles with supply chain issues – from security cameras ordered months ago to a table vendor unable to execute its contract in a timely manner. Lytle said it’s been a long, five-year process.
