Growing Government Contractor Opens New Unit-Dose Facility in Iredell County

Mooresville, NC – Health Supply US (HSUS), a U.S.-based manufacturer and distributor of medical devices and supplies, will locate its unit-dose flexible packaging division to 205 Raceway Drive in Iredell County.  HSUS plans to invest over $2.5 million in machinery, equipment and facility operations. The company will create initially up to ten new jobs in its highly-automated Mooresville manufacturing facility.

HSUS is a trusted medical products supplier to governments and private industry. HSUS is an emerging leader in coordinating the efforts of reshoring critical medical device and personal protective equipment (PPE) manufacturing back to the United States.  Since inception, HSUS has focused on providing safe, high-quality, American-made products to those on the front lines of the healthcare industry, as well helping the U.S. Government shore up its defenses for the next emergency. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, HSUS partnered with great American companies, both large Fortune 500s and small businesses (including minority and woman-owned) that shifted to PPE production in order to survive the business shutdowns. HSUS retooled nine strategically located factories throughout the U.S. and supplied the needed machinery, equipment, and training to allow those existing factories to produce American-made Berry compliant, high-quality medical isolation gowns and other critical PPE products at competitive prices. This reshoring effort employed over 5,000 American workers across the country and proved that a “Made in the U.S.A.” supply chain can rapidly produce critically needed medical supplies. In recognition of its mission and efforts, the company was awarded a $194 million federal government contract to supply medical isolation gowns to help replenish the Federal Government’s strategic national stockpile.

The company most recently acquired an industrial building in Mooresville that houses its unit-dose flexible packaging operation. The unit-dose operation is run with multiple state-of-the-art flexible packaging machines and provides contract manufacturing services to companies in multiple industry verticals. This unique flexible packaging technology produces portable, eco-friendly, leak proof, and fully customizable single-serve unit-dose sachets in all shapes and sizes. This HSUS company division is focused on contract manufacturing (co-packing) for customer brands in consumer products and personal care, health and beauty, OTC, food and beverage; with the ability to provide unit-dose delivery for the pharma industry in the future as the Mooresville facility allows for the addition of separate sterile, clean room manufacturing areas.

“HSUS is committed to government contracting, medical devices & supplies and technology innovations to onshore manufacturing for critical products to further establish the United States as a manufacturing leader once again,” states Cesar Garcia, General Manager at the Mooresville plant. “Our new space allows us the flexibility to execute on providing our innovative unit-dose flexible packaging delivery to many industry verticals,” adds Garcia.

HSUS looked at other states and facilities providing incentives but chose Iredell County as its executive team resides in the Lake Norman area. The company plans to make further investments and add another separate manufacturing facility to produce medical devices and supplies in the near future.

“Mooresville is very proud to welcome HSUS to our community,” said Mayor Miles Atkins, Town of Mooresville. “With the many locations that HSUS has nationwide, they chose to locate here in the Charlotte Region, and we are proud to have them in our community.”

“Iredell County has roughly 12,000 people employed in the healthcare sector. HSUS is a company that has great potential with the innovative technology they have developed, and we look forward to working with them to grow their footprint here in Iredell County,” said Chairman James Mallory.

“We are proud to welcome HSUS to the Charlotte Region’s robust manufacturing sector. Through jobs, technical apprenticeships, and access to state-of-the-art machinery, HSUS brings an elevated opportunity for advancement to our region’s tech talent pool. Their presence in Iredell County reinforces our regional strengths in this sector, and we join our partners in welcoming them to the greater Charlotte community,” said Charlotte Regional Business Alliance president and CEO, Janet LaBar.
