Iredell EDC Partners To Host Virtual Job Fair

How do you connect individuals seeking jobs with local employers looking to hire talent during a global pandemic? By using an innovative and creative solution to make it happen!

On June 4-5, 2020, 25 employers from Iredell County and the Lake Norman area participated in the Centralina Virtual Career Marketplace. This virtual career fair offered jobseekers the opportunity to meet employers and hiring managers in a virtual format, as well as apply to 80 different area jobs.

The Centralina Workforce Development Board (WDB), in conjunction with Iredell County Economic Development Corporation, Lake Norman Economic Development, Centralina Workforce Development Board and NCWorks Career Centers, developed this unique online event. Centralina Workforce Development Board Business Services Leader Anna Lu Wilson provided the staff support for the fair and leadership for the partnership.

A total of 213 jobseekers registered for the two-day online event with many of the attendees possessing a bachelor’s degree or higher. Overall comments provided by employers and job seekers alike were very positive for the virtual event.

Connecting talent to employment in the 21st century demands a state-of-the-art 21st century solution,” said David Hollars, Centralina Workforce Development Board Executive Director. “We believe that the time is right for the Centralina Virtual Career Marketplace to offer employers and career seekers in our region a smarter choice in connecting to each other.”
